Logbar, a Japanese company, is looking to capitalize on this trend.
The Ili (咿哩) translation necklace was announced by Logbar last year, and is set to be released later this year. In simple terms, this device is a pocket consecutive interpreter.
You speak to the device and it will replay the message in the desired language in as little as 0.2 seconds. This device can be used without an internet connection, and all the vocabulary and phrases are stored in its vast internal memory. This device, which is the size of an Apple TV remote (or Xiaomi TV depending on where you are from) is perfect for travel enthusiasts. It’s easy to pack, has a good battery life (one full day) and is constantly evolving (can be updated via PC or Mac).
Of course the device still has a few flaws to be ironed out (one way translation, limited language pairing, only common travel lingo), but the concept is definitely a step in the right direction towards making people more connected and switched on with one another.
